Cascade refrigeration utilizes two or more refrigeration systems in series to achieve temperatures that are lower than what is practical or possible to achieve with a conventional single stage refrigeration system. The most common type of cascade refrigeration system is the 2 stage version. In a typical 2-stage cascade refrigeration system, the evaporator of the 1st or high stage is used to remove heat and condense the refrigerant vapor in the condenser on the 2nd or low stage. This evaporator/condenser heat exchanger assembly is typically referred to as the “cascade” or “interstage” condenser.
